چکیده

A challenge in ontology design is to ensure that the ontology accurately represents the application domain and application constraints. Motivating scenarios provide the motivation for the representation choices made during design, and competency questions are subsequently used to evaluate the design. In this paper we show how the notion of Armstrong relations from relational database theory can be used to generate motivating scenarios and competency questions for uniqueness constraints and not null constraints.

Context-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network

Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Designing an Ontology for Knowledge Discovery in Iran’s Vaccine

Ontology is a requirement engineering product and the key to knowledge discovery. It includes the terminology to describe a set of facts, assumptions, and relations with which the detailed meanings of vocabularies among communities can be determined. This is a qualitative content analysis research. This study has made use of ontology for the first time to discover the knowledge of vaccine in Ir...

Design by Example for SQL Tables with Functional Dependencies

An Armstrong relation satisfies the functional dependencies (FD) implied by a given FD set and violates all other FDs. Therefore, they form an instance of the design-by-example methodology: the example relation exhibits precisely those FDs that the current design perceives as meaningful for the application domain. The existing framework of Armstrong relations only applies to total relations. We...

On the Ontology of Relations

In A Theory of Universals (1978) Armstrong regretted that the interest around the dispute on internal and external relations had died away with the decline of Absolute Idealism. Further, in consequence of this, advances in the ontology of relations have not been comparable with the great advances in the topic of the logic of relations. Since Armstrong wrote this, some time has passed by, but th...
